The Department of English is a legacy of the erstwhile Department of English, NEHU, which came up as early as 8th September, 1978, and it became one of the integral academic departments of Nagaland University in September 1994, when the University came into existence.
The Department is concerned with the Post-Graduate studies in English as well as Doctoral Programme. The duration of Master of Arts is a two-year course consisting of four semesters of six months each in sequence. The entire MA programme comprises of 16 courses, having four courses in each semester, covering a detailed study of English Literature beginning from the Middle English period to the later classics, American Literature, Common Wealth Literature as well as Linguistics and language teaching as optional papers. The Department envisages seminars, symposia, debates and other academic programmes.
Courses Conducted:
i) MA in English in 4 semesters consisting of four papers in each semester. The students are required to submit assignments etc. and appear viva voce tests as partial fulfillment of their programmes.
ii) Ph.D course.
Department Infrastructural Facilities:
i) The Department procured a computer and accessories and installed it in March 2001.
ii) The Department Purchased an Amplispeaker cum accessories in March 2001.
iii) A Departmental Library has been et up in March 2001.
