The present department of Botany was established on 6th September, 1997 at Headquarter Lumami, Nagaland University. Since its inceptions, the department is continuing its academic programme which comprises of four semester of the two years M.Sc Botany programme. Besides, post graduate programme the department has introduced research programme too.
Thrust area of research:
i) Reproductive biology and conservation of rare and endemic plants
ii) Microbiology
iii) Environmental Studies
iv) Conservation and Forest Biotechnology
Academic activities in the Department:
Educational study tour/field trips.
Besides class room teaching, the students were taken for local field trips to the Mingkong forest, Mokokchung district, to study different type of vegetation, environmental and collection of plant specimens. The final year students have undertaken the academic study tour to Goa, Banglore and Mysore so as to provide wider exposure to them.
