Nagaland University - Department of Political Science

Department of Political Science, Nagaland University was established at Lumami in 1997 with limited infrastructure facilities. The Department got pace with advance of time, and presently it is functioning smoothly offering full course in Political theory and allied papers such as Public Administration, Indian Govt. and Politics, theory of International Politics, Contemporary Marxist Political Theory, Comparative Politics and Political Sociology. It also has a plan to open study in Human Rights and Politics of North East India.

Academic Activities:

The Department conducts classes during working days three periods daily. Duration of a Period is one hour. In addition to the routine work in the classrooms, seminars, group discussions, home assignment works are also arranged to make the students more active and intelligent. To help the students and finish the courses in time the department also invites Visiting fellows and Guest Lecturer for short/long term from time to time from other Universities of India.

Thrust area of Research:

i) Development of Administration changes in the Villages of Nagaland

ii) Administrative mechanism of the British rule in the North-East India

iii) Human Rights and their violation in North East India

iv) Electoral Politics in Hill areas and people’s participation

v) Politics of South-East Asian Countries and Indian Sub-continent

Courses offered:

Presently Political Science Department conducts Courses in MA and it is ready to enroll Ph.D scholars too.
