NU School of Engineering & Technology and School of Management was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, His Excellency Shri K. Sankaranarayanan, the Governor of Nagaland, on 29th October 2007, at the Academic Building, near DC Court Junction, Dimapur in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio, Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Shurhozelie and other dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor referred to the event as a dream come true for the University by the introduction of professional education. He also expressed his great desire to see the actualizartion of a Medical College in the state.
The Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio considered the inauguration of the Schools as the fulfilment of a long need of the people of Nagaland to have institutes that would provide technical education within the state. He further said that due to lack of facilities in the state, parents were compelled to sent their children out of the state for professional education, thereby draining the resource of the state. As the impact of globalisation has changed the mindset of the people, he hails that NU has rightly shouldered the responsibility to prepare the young to compete in the global market.
Minister of Higher Education, Dr Shurhozelie, appraising the gathering about 40 acres of land alloted by the state government at Kohima for the purpose of the school a timely event to enhance the economic mobility of the state.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Prof. K. Kanan, Vice Chancellor, acknowledged the cooperation received from the Governor, CHief Minister, Legislators, Govt. administrators and members of the administrative and academic fraternity of NU. 'Nagaland University is creating areas of computer science, electronics and communication, information technology and biotechnology, leading to ideas and innovation in Nagaland by the youth and of the youth', he added. The VC lamented the non-implementation of the vision of the late Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi for NU and promised that the new schools would implement the new education Policy of 1986.
The programme was chaired by Shri T. Vihienuo, Registrar, Nagaland University and was attended by senior Government officials, academicians, public leaders and students. Rev. R.P Murry, Chairman, Dimapur Pastor's Fellowship pronounced the invocation prayer. Special numbers were presented by the students of Patkai Christian College, Chumukedima and SASRD, Medziphema. The Programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Imnayongdang, Dean, SASRD, NU.
